Social Justice

The Green Bay Area UU Fellowship has made a strong commitment to social justice issues. Here are just a few of the projects the fellowship has been involved with in the last year, with links to websites as available.

Through Our Social Justice Work
We Put Our Seven Principles
Into Action:

• The inherent dignity and worth
of every person.

• Justice, equality & compassion in
 human relations.

•Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth
in our congregation.

• A free and responsible search for
truth and  meaning.

• The right of conscience & the use of the democratic process within our congregation and in society at large.

• The goal of a world community with peace, liberty and justice for all.

• Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

GBAUUF AIDS Walk Wisconsin Team
The Fellowship has organized and sponsored a team that participates in the largest annual statewide fundraiser for HIV/AIDS. Both real-time and virtual walkers collect money and each September travel to Milwaukee's Lakefront for an exhilerating day which includes a rally, enterainment and a 10K walk. Though there is no set goal the GBAUUF team has averaged raising over $1000 each year over the last four years.

Golden House Sundays

On the first Sunday of every month the fellowship conducts its monthly food and hard goods drive for the Green Bay Domestic Violence Shelter for women and families also known as Golden House. Members and friends donate coffee, canned and packaged foods, cleaning supplies, disposable diapers and other needed items.

NEW Community Shelter “Room At The Inn” Meals

Several times a year fellowship members prepare and serve meals for homeless and low-income individuals and families at the NEW Community Shelter. The fellowship raises funds to buy fresh fruit and vegetable items often not available on the homeless shelter menu and members bake breads and desserts to give the meals we serve an extra homemade touch.

Additionally members of our fellowship participate in local, regional and statewide social justice organizations working to improve equal rights, the environment and and other social justice issues.  Our Sunday post-service social time allows members and friends to infomrally discuss issues and porvide referrals to activist groups.
